We started AvelPOS because we lived the problem - watching African retailers struggle with tools that weren't built for them. We decided to change that.

Our Mission

AvelPOS was born from a simple observation: African retail is enormous, but the tools available to merchants were either too expensive, too complex, or not designed for African realities - intermittent internet, cash-dominant transactions, multi-currency trade.

We set out to build a POS platform that truly works for African business owners: one that runs offline, handles Nigerian Naira natively, supports multi-branch operations from a single dashboard, and sets up in a single day.

2023 Q1

The Problem Identified

After watching a pharmacy in Onitsha lose ₦300,000 in unexplained stock over 3 months, our founder Kelvin Christopher started building the first version of AvelPOS - initially just a spreadsheet replacement.

2023 Q3

First 13 Customers

Word spread from Lagos to Port Harcourt to Uyo through social media, friends telling friends, and organic recommendations. Our first 13 customers told us exactly what they needed: offline mode, barcode scanning, and instant digital receipts. We built it all in 90 days.

2024 Q2

Multi-Branch Goes Live

We incorporated the new features customers told us about. A supermarket chain in Lagos wanted to manage 3 branches from one dashboard - we built multi-branch, and it became our most-used feature overnight.

2024 Q4

West Africa Expansion

AvelPOS crossed into Ghana and expanded across southern Nigeria, helping more retailers run their daily operations on one platform.

Growing Across Africa

Businesses in Ghana and Kenya adopted AvelPOS through recommendations, taking us past 1.3k+ active businesses. Our multi-currency support and offline-first architecture made it a natural fit for their markets. We are now building our mobile app and adding more features for retailers across the continent.
